About Me

My name is Mark Zammit and I live in the village of Haxey, just across the road from St. Nicholas' Church. Since January 2020 I have been the Vicar of two parishes, Haxey and Owston Ferry, situated on the Isle of Axholme. In June 2023, I was also licenced as Priest-in-Charge of the Crowle Group of Parishes: Crowle, Luddington and Garthorpe. These parishes are now sharing some resources of ministry whilst maintaining their individual identities.

I am originally from Southampton and lived there until I moved with my family to study theology at Salisbury and Wells Theological College. After being ordained in 1994 I returned to Southampton, serving my title in the parish of Bitterne Park. 

Since then I have served in parishes in Dorset, Wiltshire and West Yorkshire, mainly but not exclusively in a rural context. For most of this time I have worked in Team Ministries and have been involved in the training and development of ordinands and those newly ordained, as well as individual mentoring for colleagues. 

I have a Masters Degree in Coaching and Mentoring Practice from Oxford Brookes University, and enjoy working in various aspects of adult learning, looking for the potential within and helping to bring out peoples’ various gifts and talents. 

I enjoy preaching and when preparing sermons I seek to encourage and gently challenge whilst expressing my firm conviction in the gospel of Christ. I am rooted in a sacramental ministry, and view the sacraments as a specific response to the salvation won for us in the death and resurrection of Jesus.

For leisure I enjoy spending time in the garden, where I am fortunate enough to have a greenhouse; and I have an interest in baking; particularly bread, biscuits and the occasional cake.
