Mothers' Union

Mothers' UnionMothers’ Union at St Nicholas’ Haxey meets on the second Wednesday afternoon of each month at 3.30pm in the Church Hall. We have over 20 members and we are always pleased to welcome visitors to our meetings.

MU is a worldwide organisation with 4 million members who aim to serve their communities primarily through supporting disadvantaged families and campaigning for social justice. Its name goes back to 1876, before social services and education were established in UK. Mary Sumner, a shy vicar’s wife, organised a ‘union’ for women, rich and poor, in churches where they could support each other and improve their families’ lives. The model transferred readily overseas and the impact of MU worldwide stretches from improving the life of impoverished villagers to having a voice at the United Nations Commission on the status of Women.

So what do we do? Our emphasis is Christian friendship, increasing our awareness of current issues and working together to support our community. This can take many forms and our membership decides the programme. Whether you are older or have health issues, or are younger with lots of energy, it’s amazing what can be done together and through prayer.

Men are welcome! You don’t have to belong to our church or any church to join us -  just be in sympathy with MU aims.
